I want to die to see what it’s like, then
come back again and tell folks what I saw
or nix, I can keep a secret, I just
want to know what’s waiting there, beyond this
world, I mean, Earth as I know it though I’m
only 10 and don’t know much of any
-thing but if I got my wish I’d know what’s
what and that would be enough but could
I keep a secret and if not what kind
of punishment would God hit me with in
Hell for not keeping my big trap shut I’m
not sure but maybe I’d remind Him It’s
You who hath made me and not I myself,
which I swiped from the Bible but it’s good.

GALE ACUFF has had hundreds of poems published in a dozen countries and is the author of three poetry collections. He has taught university English courses in the US, China, and Palestine, where he currently teaches at Arab American University.
