Incomplete Abecedarian of Autumn Equinox with Body

by Violeta Garcia-Mendoza

An airship brushed with borrowed light, my body
loves a clockwork, darkroom, deckle edge. My stare’s

a feather state—daybreak with dream interpretation.
I scan for geode, guardrail, hand grenade & my body

pings back: alveoli, hip flexors, sciatica. Heart, heart.
Migration season & imagine the horizon crossed with

birds. Longing’s a jet-stream & below it, my body
is an island strewn with kudzu, karma. Somewhere

there’s a laugh track, life raft. I keep a magpie’s nest—
an open letter, pending ode; my pockets full of quartz

& Queen Anne’s lace. I think in ribbons. In this recurring
dream I search for radiance; body as séance, testament,

because unless inside me, where’s the volta? The planet
spins. Inside the tipping light, I voice memo the wind.
